A Guide to Loving Yourself
February can easily be identified as the month of love, with all the heart shaped candy, mushy social media posts, it’s a time to show those ones you love just how much you love them. But what about yourself, when was the last time you did something to show yourself love? If you are a busy mom, college student or someone who works full time I am sure the time is long overdue. Believe that you deserve ‘it’ whatever that ‘it’ is that’s going to make you happy.
Self care and self love is something so crucial in your busy life. Whether its taking five minutes in the morning to go get your favorite drink or buying a bath bomb and taking a relaxing bath, taking time for yourself is never wasted. With the month of love coming to a close we want to give you a few tips and tricks to show yourself some love.
Self Care Idea #1: Spend a little extra time to get ready.
Take the extra time to do your hair, shake up your makeup routine by adding a winged eyeliner or add a bold lip. Do whatever it is that makes you feel pretty and put together instead of just running out the door. It’s amazing what getting ready can do for your self confidence and mood.
Self Care Idea #2: Get dressed up.
Even if you are just going out to run errands, get dressed up. Instead of leaving the house in grungy sweatpants put on a cute pair of culottes or a jumpsuit. Show yourself some love by actually getting ready. It’s amazing how much more you can get done when you’re ready for the day. You don’t have to have a reason to get dolled up, because you want too and it makes you feel amazing is enough of a reason.
Self Care Idea #3: Start everyday with positivity and love.
When it comes to yourself what do you love? Could it be how determined you are? Or maybe something simpler like how good your hair looks when its curled, whatever you love about yourself, acknowledge it. Starting the day with positivity will get your mindset ready to take on the day. Remember, your body hears everything your mind thinks, so fill it with positive thoughts.
Self Care Idea #4: Go shopping and learn how to dress for your body type.
It can be hard to want to get ready when pieces of clothing that look so good on the models don’t look quite as good on you. Lucky for you, My Sister’s Closet is having a ‘shop your shape’ event where we will shut down both locations and have fit experts to help you learn how to best dress your body shape. Do some good ‘ol fashion shopping, go to the actual store and try stuff on. It’s perfect for giving yourself a break and you can never go wrong with finding a new outfit.
Self Care Idea #5: Learn to say no.
I’m sure part of the reason you feel so busy and stressed is because of tasks that you don’t necessarily need to do. If you find yourself feeling pressured to please everyone, take a step back and realize your first priority is yourself. Stop filling your days with things that you feel pressured to do, free up some of that time to do things that bring joy to you. Learning to say no gives you such a sense of empowerment, try it once and you’ll see.
It can be difficult to take time for yourself, you may even feel a little selfish at first but I promise you self care and love is anything but selfish. How can you be your best self if you are running on empty? It’s simple, you can’t, just like a car can’t run without any gas in its tank. You can’t ‘run’ if you are always on empty. Self care is how you refill and recharge your energy to take on the day. Everyday should be filled with at least one thing to show yourself you care. You don’t have to do something extravagant everyday like getting a new outfit. But everyday you should give yourself at least fifteen minutes to get creative, read an interesting book or even just watch a sunrise or sunset in peace. Get into the habit of looking after yourself without any guilt or worry.
